Siddharth Shingade, Couple, acrylic on canvas
Tall, stylized figures “wrapped in history, with a million stories to tell”. Blending history, mythology, and daily rural life, Siddharth Shingade describes his paintings as narrating “the stories of my native land and its people.”
Inspired by childhood recollections of his birthplace in India, Siddharth Shingade’s paintings are populated by villagers in colourful embroidered cloth and farm animals set within a soulful landscape.

Shingade’s colour palette resonates with his homeland in Marathwada, India, with deep browns and golden yellows drawing upon the resilience of the draught-affected landscape and also upon the warmth of its climate and the strength and community of its people.
Among the many things that appeal to me in his art is how the paintings convey the interconnectedness between the people, the animals, and the landscape.

Siddharth’s style is both minimalistic and decorative, and he somehow gracefully blends elements of both in the same artwork. Not surprisingly, he is influenced by both Gustav Klimt and the powerfully minimalistic paintings of the Indian artist Datta Bansode.
