In this last installment of Levan Lagidze’s art in his own words, I take you to a quote that is at the heart of the magic of his works.

It is an excerpt from an Artist Talk Lagidze gave during last year’s exhibition with us in London. I wanted all my paintings to carry some secret. To show depth beyond the surface layers of paint. I love when after the first impression a work draws you back to it again … Every time one looks at a painting, one should be able to discover something new. The multilayered technique [I developed] provides an opportunity to create this sense of wonder.
It is important to me that you want to come back to a painting again and again, like you do with literature or other forms of art, music, film. Every time you see the painting the process of discovery comes alive anew. I have the good fortune that people who shared my art say they don’t get bored with it.
